What is a Furry?

The craze is often creative. Many furries draw, write stories, create a “fursona,” which is an animal character that is their alter ego. It’s a way to express themselves, to explore another facet of themselves, often more extroverted or more assumed than in “real life.”

The “Fursuiters”: The Embodiment of the Character

The most visible thing is the “fursuiters,” those who wear full animal costumes, often custom-made and costing a fortune. When they put on the “fursuit,” they don’t disguise themselves; they become their character. It’s a form of total escape.

The Furry Community: A Space of Belonging

The heart of it is the community. Furries meet at conventions, meet-ups. It’s a big family of people often a bit on the fringe, who find a space where they can be themselves without being judged.

Non-Sexual and Sexual Aspects: The “Yiff”

For many, it is absolutely not sexual. It’s a hobby, a passion, a life-sized role-playing game.

But there is obviously a sexual part, and it has a name: “yiff.” It’s the fandom’s porn.

Yiff can be pornographic drawings or comics with furry characters, erotic stories, or online sexual roleplay.

And yes, it can go as far as sex in a fursuit. Imagine the scene: two big plushies getting it on in a hotel room during a convention. It’s hot, it’s sweaty, it’s probably impractical, but for those who are into it, it’s the ultimate fulfillment of their fantasy.

You have incredibly talented artists and adorable people who just want hugs, and at the other end, guys who want to be doggy-styled by a two-meter wolf. Like everywhere, you find everything. The important thing is to respect everyone’s thing.
