What is Hot-botting?

Hot-botting is an extremely risky and marginal injection practice, even within the chemsex community. It involves injecting drugs directly into the veins of the penis. There is no dedicated French term; sometimes people refer to ‘penile injection’ or ‘injection into the penis’, but the English term Hot-botting remains the most commonly used to describe this specific practice.

Why this practice?

The motivations behind Hot-botting are multiple. Some seek an even more intense and rapid rush, believing that injecting closer to erogenous zones will multiply the effects of the drug. For others, it’s a form of playing with danger, an ultimate transgression that mixes the pain of injection with sexual excitement. It’s a practice that lies at the intersection of BDSM and drug use, where body modification is an integral part of the trip.

Which drugs are injected?

The most common injected drugs associated with Hot-botting are stimulants used in chemsex, such as crystal meth (methamphetamine) or 3-MMC. These substances are chosen for their powerful euphoric and disinhibiting effect. The idea is to combine the flash of the injection with direct and intense sexual stimulation.

The Consequences of Hot-botting

Hot-botting is one of the most dangerous practices in chemsex. The consequences are immense and can have irreversible effects:

  • Vascular lesions: The veins of the penis are thin and fragile. Repeated injections can permanently damage them, causing thrombosis (blood clots), hematomas, and blood circulation problems.

  • Infections and abscesses: As with any injection, the risk of infection is very high. An abscess on the penis is not only extremely painful but can also lead to permanent deformation of the penis.

  • Priapism: This is a prolonged and painful erection that does not subside. It is a medical emergency that, if not treated quickly, can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction (impotence).

  • Necrosis and gangrene: In the most severe cases, a bad injection or an untreated infection can lead to tissue death (necrosis), resulting in gangrene and requiring partial or total amputation of the penis.

  • Overdose: Injection into such a vascularized area can lead to very rapid absorption of the drug, increasing the risk of overdose.

Hot-botting is playing with fire where one risks losing much more than just an erection. It is an extreme practice that illustrates how far the search for sensations can lead, in total disregard for one’s physical integrity.
