SM Plan: Definitions and Key Concepts

An “SM Plan” is a sexual encounter (a “hookup”) focused on sadomasochistic (SM) practices and more broadly on BDSM. Unlike a classic hookup, an SM plan is not just a simple fuck, but a “scene”: a codified session where partners take on dominant and submissive roles to explore fantasies related to pain, constraint, and power exchange.

It is not about violence, but a consensual, ritualized, and psychological exchange. Mastering the vocabulary is therefore essential to establish rules, communicate limits, and live the experience safely and intensely. This guide defines the fundamental concepts of the SM and BDSM scene.

What are the fundamental concepts of the SM scene?

Domination / Submission (D/s)

This is the basis of all BDSM dynamics. It is a psychological power exchange where one person (the Dominant or “Dom”) voluntarily takes control over another (the submissive or “sub”) who, in turn, finds intense pleasure in surrendering that control. This is the framework that gives meaning to all other practices.

Sadism and Masochism (S&M)

This is the heart of “SM”. The Sadist is one who derives erotic excitement from inflicting controlled and consensual pain or humiliation on their partner. The Masochist is one who derives pleasure from receiving the same pain or humiliation. Both roles are complementary and feed off each other.

Bondage / Restraint

The practice of restricting the movements of the submissive partner. The most common tools are ropes (Japanese “Shibari” style or Western style), handcuffs, chains, or adhesive tape. The goal is to create a state of total physical helplessness, which forces mental surrender and amplifies sensations on the immobilized body.

Impact Play

All practices involving striking the submissive’s body to create an intense sensation. This includes spanking (with the hand), slapping, but also the use of instruments such as a whip, belt, paddle, or cane. Pain causes an adrenaline rush and the release of endorphins, creating a euphoric state.

Humiliation

A purely psychological domination practice. Excitement arises from the verbal or situational degradation of the submissive. This can include ritual insults, the obligation to perform degrading tasks, adopting animal postures (being treated like a dog), or exposing one’s body. The goal is to break the ego to achieve deeper submission.

Master / Slave (Master/slave)

The most extreme and engaging form of the D/s dynamic. Unlike a simple scene, it is a total power exchange (TPE) relationship that can extend to all aspects of life, 24/7. The slave voluntarily surrenders all autonomy to their Master, who becomes their owner.

The absolute pillar of all BDSM practice. Consent must be clear, enthusiastic, and continuous. Limits are the non-negotiable boundaries defined by each partner BEFORE the scene begins (e.g., “no blood,” “no anal penetration,” “no insults about my family”). Respect for limits is the golden rule.

Safeword / Safety Word

The essential safety tool. It is a word, chosen in advance and without sexual connotation (e.g., “red,” “traffic light,” “umbrella”), that allows the submissive to end the scene immediately and without discussion. The safeword is the “true” no, which goes beyond the “no” that can be part of the role-play. When the safeword is pronounced, everything stops.
